FROM THE AOA
LOOKING TO THE FUTURE
Thank you to all of
you who attended
our recent conference
in the beautiful west.
The conference was a great success and
provided a wonderful opportunity for
us to meet, exchange ideas and learn
about new research within osteopathy
and other disciplines. The conference also
gave us a chance to identify some of the
challenges we face as a profession and
as individual practitioners, and discuss as
a cohort how we can overcome them.
While in Perth we met with the WA
Minister for Health, Dr Hames. This was
a great opportunity to advocate for
osteopathy and enhance our visibility in
the healthcare landscape. Dr Hames was
sympathetic to our concerns, and we look
forward to developing this relationship.
The AOA also hosted meetings with
the OBA, OIA, ANZOC and Osteopathy
NZ to foster open dialogue and explore
the future challenges we together face
as a profession.
Ongoing challenges were identified
as achieving sustainable education
programs and producing osteopathic
research in Australia. The AOA hosted an
education roundtable in Melbourne last
month with university representatives
and other key stakeholders, with the
aim of identifying our key challenges
and finding solutions. This was a very
successful day, and we will continue to
facilitate these workshops.
The board is excited to welcome our
new Senior Policy advisor, Sam Dettmann
and Communications Officer Zoë Griffyn
to the AOA. We are continually improving
and developing the services we offer
to our membership and expanding our
lobbying efforts. Sam and Zoë bring a
wealth of experience to our table, further
enhancing the work of our existing staff.
We are continuing to expand our
portfolios and invite you to join. They
provide a wonderful way to explore
your own clinical interests, meet new
colleagues and share ideas that will
improve your clinical outcomes and
allow you to make a contribution to
I would like to leave you with a few
words from Dr Still taken from The dry
bone to the living man by John Lewis.
"It is my hope and wish that every
osteopath will go on and on in search
for scientific facts as they relate to the
human mechanism and health, and to
an ever extended unfolding of nature's
truths and laws."
