The new website has proved to be a
raging success with improved functionality
and the ability to provide invaluable CPD
opportunities. The centralisation of CPD
organisation has been successful for state
advisory committees in freeing up precious
volunteer time to focus on areas of our
members' expertise and interest -- special
interest groups (SIGs), meeting third party
insurers and assisting Medicare locals.
SIG development has been challenging
yet ably assisted in many areas by the most
important asset of the AOA -- you!
We currently have committees
working in paediatrics, sports osteopathy
and occupational health and exercise
rehabilitation. This marks the beginning
of a challenging pathway and the Board
is confident this initiative will satisfy and
help meet the professional and career
demands of members.
The crucial education portfolio has
nurtured the relationship with, and
between, our universities resulting in
greater support mechanisms, increased
collaboration in identifying funding
from universities and government,
research, lobbying key stakeholders
and resource sharing.
Peer support resources offer more for
members, private health insurers are being
lobbied more effectively and we are abreast
of international developments.
Lobbying has included meetings with
Federal Health Minister staff, many federal
government ministers, Victorian and
Queensland Health Ministers, Shadow Federal
Health and NSW Shadow Health Ministers.
The employment of our first policy officer
has seen a scope of practice, competency
and credentialing development to better
support our profession.
Early 2013 will see a second executive
officer join the AOA to assist in lobbying
and policy. We are a growing association
and we are being heard!
Many thanks to all volunteers, State
Presidents, Antony Nicholas, AOA
office staff and our dedicated Board
of AOA Directors.
Yours in good health,
Damien J Guengerich
